This year we're going to hold 75 screenings in eight theaters around Anchorage. At least 100 works will be selected to screen twice over ten days. We love film, but are happy to show high quality video productions as well. Please find the category that your piece fits and apply through Without a Box. Deadline is September 1.


 


Filmmaker Info:

The AIFF is a program supported by the Alaska Moving Image Preservation Association. The Festival is entirely operated by a team of volunteers. Your entry fee is solely used to operate and facilitate our 10 day event. All earned income is used to support and promote the Art of Independent film.
All selected films will be listed on our website no later than 11/15/05. This will give you at least 3 days to work on airfare arrangements to stay within the 14 day advance notice travel rules.
All entry submissions will be verified by email. All rejections will be verified by email. All official selections will be verified by email and or telephone. If you do not receive an email confirmation of selection or rejection by November 15th, please contact the department head that pertains to your particular category or call or main office at 907 338-3690. How to Submit

Submissions must be received by September 1, 2005.

* We prefer paperwork and fees to be submit through Without a Box, however we will accept entry forms and fees sent directly to our address.
* Review copy of film must be sent to our address on VHS or DVD (NTSC ONLY for VHS!! DVD may be in PAL format. )
* All films in languages other than English must be subtitled or dubbed in English.
* Complete submissions (forms, fees, and films) must be received by September 1, 2005.
* Each entry must be accompanied by a completed entry form (photocopies are acceptable) and an entry fee. Preview cassettes must be labeled with the film title, running time and contact information.

Rules

* The competition is open to any film or video completed after December 31, 2003, regardless of content, subject or origin. The film cannot have been screened in Alaska or in the USA on broadcast or cable TV prior to December 31, 2005.
* A film will only be eligible for the AIFF 2005 judging competition if fees and forms are submit with the film by deadline.
* We support independent film and encourage all genre to enter.


Fees

* The Festival is entirely operated by a team of volunteers. Your entry fee is solely used to operate and facilitate our 10 day event.
* The Entry Fee is $40 for all films over 55 minutes, $25 for films under 55 min in length and $15 for films under 10 minutes.

Confirmation

* All submissions will be verified by email. All rejections will be verified by email. All official selections will be verified by email and or telephone. If you do not receive an email confirmation of selection or rejection by November 1st, please contact the department head that pertains to your particular category or call or main office at 907 338-3690.
* Preview tapes may be returned by special arrangement. Please provide self addressed, stamped envelop and notify the director of programming for your division by email.


Official Selections

* The Screening Committee will choose films that "work" at what they're trying to do. The goal of the AIFF selection process is to establish a diverse, provocative, compelling, and entertaining showcase of excellent international feature length, documentary, short, supershort, and animation films that will engage our imaginations and enhance our lives culturally and artistically through the art of independent film. Films will be chosen purely on the basic fundamentals of entertainment value, mental stimulation and craftsmanship.
* Films accepted into the program for AIFF 05 are "Official Selections".
* All official selections will be listed on the website by November 1, 2005.
* AIFF grants the use of the designation as "Official Selection, Anchorage International Film Festival 2005" by the authorized representatives of any film accepted as an "Official Selection" in the promotion, advertising or marketing of that film.
* Official Selections will be required to review and update information on their film for inclusion in the AIFF 05 printed program and website, to provide high quality stills (tiff format or prints), and to provide long and short written synopses of their film. Please only send these items when requested.
* All selected filmmakers should include a media packet with photos, promotional poster and brief bios of the director, editor, all main characters and production crew when possible. Please be prepared to send these materials by November 1, 2005.


Accepted Formats

* Films and videos accepted to be screened during AIFF 2005 must be made available for Festival presentation in at least two of the following formats: 35 mm, Beta SP, DVD, and/or DV-DVcam. All presentation tapes must be NTSC formatted.
* All work submit by BetaSP, DVD and DV-DVcam must be shipped prepaid and packed in proper returnable containers and received at the Film Festival office no later than November 1, 2005.
* 35mm must be received no later than November 15th.
* All screening copies will be returned by December 31, 2005, postage paid by the A.I.F.F. Arrangements can be made to receive films and videos immediately after Festival screening.
* All selected films and videos should be insured by the entrant against damage or loss while participating in the Festival. AIFF will not be liable for loss or damage (but we will take excellent care of your media).


Filmmakers at the Festival

* We strongly encourage all filmmakers to attend our festival. As past filmmakers can attest, Alaskan hospitality is unbeatable! We don't care if you're an award winner or a complete novice. We're happy to have you and roll out the red carpet for all of our guests.
* All selected films will be notified by email by October 15th and listed on our website no later than 11/1/05. This will give you at least two weeks to work on airfare arrangements to stay within the 14 day advance notice travel rules. 2 Free hotel nights will be given out on a first come, first served basis. Flight itinerary will be required to make the free reservations. Otherwise, a number of us have VERY comfortable couches!
* The Opening Gala is a total blast and we would love you all to be there. Awards are way fun too. You should plan to be here for the at least one weekend and for your screening during the week. We have planned a number of events and will update this site with additional information as it comes available. Once your have submit your entry, we will notify you by email of updates.
* The Programming Committee has one heck of a hard job to do, and they'll get notice out as soon as humanly possible the days your film will show. Your film will show at least twice and no more than three times during the festival.


Awards

* Finalists in each category will be notified by email November 15, 2005.
* Award winners will be announced at our awards banquet. The date is TBA, but we expect it to be Saturday December 10th.
* The amount of cash awards will be dictated by sponsorship support, in-kind donations and the total amount of filmmaker submissions.
* All cash awards will be given to the primary applicant.
* AIFF grants the use of the designation as "Award Winner, Anchorage International Film Festival 2005," with the name of the award and division, by the authorized representatives of any film accepted as an "Award Winner" in the promotion, advertising or marketing of that film.


Errata

Applicant grants AIFF the right to show their film publicly in Alaska until December 2006, unless written notice is given to AIFF. All review copies become property of AIFF unless return instructions and postage are provided at time of entry. AIFF archives these films and may make them available for review through a film library in the future. Submission of an entry to this festival signifies that the entrant understands, accepts and agrees to these conditions.
